The bright flame
in the Hot Stove (League)
concerns the future fortunes,
literally, of Juan Soto,
now a Yankee,
but maybe not for long.
Considered a generational player,
he is now testing the
waters of free agency
and is subject to the bidding wars
involving several major league clubs.
It is reported the the Mets
have offered him $660 million
with the promise of its owner,
Steve Cohen, to top
any other bid by $50 million.
I simply ask – is anyone
worth such an amount?
You could argue that’s
what the market will pay,
but it is inconceivable to me
one person is so
astronomically valuable.
Not to rant, but that
exorbitant sum
could be put
to better use; feel free to imagine
where that money could be spent,
domestically or internationally.
I am sure Juan Soto
is a nice young man,
and I wish him well.
but something is very wrong
with our economics
if this “is what it is”
when it is said
60% of the country
lives paycheck to paycheck.
