R.I.P. FERNANDO VALENZUELA

The Mexican cult hero of his time.
Non-fans became fanatical Fernando fans.
Drew millions on his presence alone.
Threw a fastball and junk with it.

Hitters couldn’t see the ball when he hurled.
Turned the ’81 Series around, with a complete game.
Threw that devastating screwball and slider. . .
Charisma was his middle name.

Pitched an encore World Series in 1988.
Over the top and mysterious to hitters.
Finally pitched that elusive no-hitter in 1990.
An ethnic superstar, much to his adoration.

He was Hall of Fame worthy and maybe he will get in someday.
Adios amigo, and rest in peace good fellow.
A stellar lefty of the 1980’s
