How ya gonna keep ’em
down on the farm
when they are blowing up Triple A?
All spring training I followed
my four favorite rookies
as they made their bids
to become major leaguers.
They all had outstanding springs,
so how do the powers-that-be
decide who goes up and
who goes down?
Do age, contracts and seniority
supersede new, raw talent?
Veterans are there for a reason,
but what do you do with
the exciting talent bubbling below?
When is it decided that the torch
“is passed to a new generation”?
I am glad I am not the gatekeeper
who has to make such decisions,
though I long to see my rookies move up.
