Yankee Doodle was a dandy, came to town
sat in the grandstand
waved his right arm or his left
sometimes both
sometimes with a scorecard in one hand
or the other or both
Nattily dressed, pinstripe blue suit
white shirt, always a red tie
gold rimmed glasses
patent leather shoes
head topped with a fedora
looked every bit a rich dandy
What was he doing out there waving
like he was drowning
smiling, frowning, smiling again
sending signals perhaps, no, definitely
signals for other gamblers, game fixed
he knew the outcome, that’s the feather in his hat
