Hell no!
I was well-paid for the time,
and playing for Dolf was a godsend.
He taught me
how to make my curveball better,
how to make the plate mine
(and how to make sure the batter knew it);
in short, how to pitch successfully.
If I hadn’t gone south of the border
I’d have been just another guy
who pitched a year during the war.
