SHORT OF THE CONFESSION BOX

Short of the confession box,
there is nothing so cleansing
as spring training in the sun.
Before the first batter steps in,
before the first pitch is thrown,
before the first catch is made,
there is an intake of breath
as all appears so sparkling new.
Batters are at .000.
Pitchers are at 0.00
and the slate, or the plate,
if you will, is clear of debris,
pristine in promises of possibility.
All past sins, whether of
omission or commission,
have been wiped away
in the anticipation of the new season.
(Would we could say the same for the country.)
Spring training – a time in life
when past errors are forgiven,
and game highlights await to be recorded.
