ROOTING FOR A NO-HITTER

I read the daily box scores,
and I root for not only my favorite players,
but for the whole team as well,
except when –
when there is history to be made.
For eight innings I urged my hapless team
to get at least one measly hit,
but they were constantly fooled by
a pitcher who painted the corners.
At the bottom of the ninth,
I found myself rooting for the other side.
I wanted the no-hitter for the rookie pitcher.
One out, then two, then two strikes, and then –
then a called third strike.
Some might call me disloyal,
but how many chances do you get
to see a no-hitter?
