As the crow flies,
Arco, Idaho is equidistant from Denver and Seattle.
It’s a small farming community with one main street.
Folks there are equally divided between
loyalty to the Broncos and Seahawks.
People will gather at the town’s café
to watch the big game, eat and cheer.
How strange a country
when a flying football takes precedence
over planes flying in war.
How obsessed a country
when the final score takes precedence
over the divisions in a country, not by team,
but by the gap between rich and poor.
We will watch our Super Bowl,
drink our beer, eat our chips,
forgetting for the day
that we are equidistant
from the realities of life,
and the escape from them.
