AIR JORDAN

“Air Jordan”

It is reported that
Michael Jordan has made
$1,972 billion from
the sale of his shoes.
Hardly a footnote.
What does that say about
American culture?
That we have no sole?
That we are laced with
false values, that shoes on our feet
are more important than brains
in our heads. Bad puns
mask the given outrage.
You will say if
the shoe fits, wear it,
a seemingly profitable business coda,
but a hop, skip, and a jump away
from the true problems of the land,
like the homeless, like the hungry,
like the overwhelming numbers
who struggle to find food
for the table, who can’t afford
even one new Jordan shoe.
It is food for thought.
