BASEBALL HAT

A Memento Mori
In remembrance of J. D.

Methodically, we emptied the orderly
basement filled with his memorabilia
to make it easier
for his soon to be widow,
and what we knew would be
his too short life. Happily he spun,
like a frisbee, his old baseball hat
from our time together
as college students for me to keep.
I did not fumble the gift.
Still seldom worn, I remember twice.
