APOLOGIES TO THE HOME TEAM

My son started his Little League career
At the earliest opportunity – real babes –
So young
And we mothers were showing up to
Learn our roles; How hard could this be?
It’s supposed to be fun: the players who
were the youngest boys
Got sunshine, fresh air, a chance to run
Around and play to the rules of the game
Baseball has its history
So, mothers learn with their children
And I seem to have been one of the slow learners
Which was unfortunate because you
Never want to disappoint your children
All I did was sit on the wrong team’s side
Meaning, I must’ve sought out some shade
And while my son was seriously making some moves
I had really turned on to the game yelling my
Encouragement with no bad words, except I was sadly
Helping the other side
