DEAD BALL BASHER

Roger Connor played baseball from 1880 to 1897.
He smashed 134 homers for the Troy Trojans and
New York Gothams, later known as the Giants, as
Well as the Phillies and Browns of the Major Leagues,
And another 14 in the Players’ League (an acknowledged
Major League team during its only season of existence,
In 1890). The man hit the first home run in the Polo Grounds
In New York. He hit his final home run against Cy Young
Of the Cleveland Spiders in 1897. He never led his league
In homers, though he did have other accomplishments listed
On his Hall of’ Fame plaque – getting six hits in a game and
Hitting .300 or higher 12 times. Sadly, he faded into the
Forgotten masses of history after he retired and was
Buried in an unmarked grave, though years later that
Situation was corrected by charitable donations – a
Favorable turn and a respectful status for the man who
Held the Major League record for home runs hit until
His power record was broken by the new record-holder,
Babe Ruth, in 1921 . . . one year after the dead ball era
Died.
