We finally get major-league ball in Kansas City,
only to have an owner so beholden to the Yankee owners
that we became a major-league farm team for them
And then we get Charlie Finley:
when he announced he was moving the team to Oakland,
pending league approval,
I wasn’t satisfied with the vague promise
that we would get a new team soon:
I took to the Senate floor and threatened
to take away baseball’s antitrust exemption
unless Kansas City got a team right away
The next day the American League
awarded us an expansion franchise
