As a manager, business manager,
team president, league president,
my guiding principle was simple:
players are subordinate
Any attempt to change that status,
whether by collective action, legal action,
agents, or baseball-related alternatives,
had to be tightly controlled if not crushed outright
I don’t think I would be successful now
when player relations aren’t so one-sided
