ARNOLD JOHNSON

I was locked into three seasons in Kansas City,
after which I planned to move the team to the Coast,
but the Dodgers and Giants beat me to it
I believe I’ve gotten a bad rap from historians
Sure, the Yankees helped me buy the As
from the Mack family in two ways:
by denigrating my competition,
and by not requiring an indemnity payment
for moving into their Kansas City territory
But I did not pay them back
by trading our best players and prospects to them
and getting very little in return;
the Mack family had left the cupboard bare,
and I was giving up a little quality
to get quantity in return,
in order to build up from there
