Oh, what can you say
about a team that has tried…..
and failed?
That they were fine young men?
That they had lofty aspirations?
Not good enough, especially
for a metropolis that demands
instantaneous results.
What to do now, we wonder?
Some say blow up the team
and revitalize the farm system.
Trade the old regulars batting below .200.
Bring up the rooks from Triple A.
Lower the price of admission
to all remaining home games.
But in the meantime,
do we play taps, scatter flowers,
and sing a song in a minor key?
As loyal fans facing a dismal year,
we must stand by the casket of our team
with tears in our eyes,
and hope in our hearts for
a successful season next year.
