RACE RELATIONS – BROOKLYN DIVISION

“Baseball used to be so big ‘round here.
We’d have championship teams
that took us all the way to the city finals.
Then the neighborhood started to change,
if you catch my drift.
They started movin’ in
with an endless number of children,
who seemed to play better
with their feet than their hands.
They began crowdin’ us
offa the baseball diamonds,
to kick a ball around.
Nobody scored, but when they did,
they screamed, ‘Gooooooal!!!’
Then a funny thing happened:
They got so good,
we had championship teams again
that took us all the way to the city finals.
I’m so glad we accepted them in our school.”
