IT’S A LOOOONG SEASON

My friend, Sam, tells me
I have no patience
when it comes to baseball.
He’s right.
At the end of the first month
I am disconsolate that my team
is playing lackluster baseball.
“Bring up the rookies,” I cry,
(who are tearing up Triple A.)
“Get rid of the manager.”
But patience is required here.
To wit: a little research reveals –
1917, the Boston Braves, 15 games
out in July, won the pennant.
1978, the New York Yankees, 14 games
out in July, won the pennant.
1993, the Atlanta Braves, 10 games
out in July, won the pennant.
I really must get a grip.
It’s a loooong season.
