IN WHAT BRACKET? (basketball)

In what bracket do I belong?
What is wrong with my universe
that my main interest in the universe
concerns the deposit of a sphere
into a metal cylinder with rope netting?
That I am more interested in
the number of points tallied
for each side of the ledger
than where I fall, good or bad,
on the cosmic court.
In a matter of a week, month or year,
I will forget my basketball configurations,
and be left to ponder my position
on a playing surface of larger parameters.
My choices for the brackets seem arbitrary;
my choices for life seem the same,
and in the calculations of which direction to go,
there is no clear path to final triumph.
So, stick to your bracket, Mel.
Weightier questions of path and purpose
lie outside the confines of your hardwood floor.
