I AM SUING MY KNEES

I am suing my knees –
for non-support.
Things fall apart,
and my poor knees
have decided to disassemble first.
Can anything be done
to hold up their structural integrity,
short of replacing them
in some fearful medical procedure?
Maybe I can shore up their defense
with a brace or two. Or bring
some relevant medicine to bear,
anything to forestall the attack of the
torn meniscus and rampant arthritis.
My knees besiege me, weakening my will
and slowing my pace to a turtle’s crawl.
Stairs, you make me reel in pain.
I’d gladly trade my knees for a new pair,
for which I’d gladly pay you next Tuesday.
My knees are bringing me to my knees.
