FUNERAL FOR A SEASON?

I have been accused
of writing my Mets obituary
far too early in their quest
for a championship season.
They are nearly10 games out
in the month of June.
I know there have been
bigger comebacks in baseball,
e.g the ’51 Giants,
and the ’78 Yankees.
But I wear my black Mets tee shirt
signifying a prayerful R.I.P.
Will the owner deliver the eulogy
when the team’s glove and bats
are put in an expensive coffin?
Will flowers be placed along the sidelines?
Will “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”
be played as a funeral dirge?
Is it too early to clean out lockers?
Or am I too quick to write them off
and rev up the hearse in a
slow drive to the next season?
