I know, I know, it’s a long season,
but already they’re losing.
My beloved Mets lost
the season’s opener 1-0
with only one hit!
And I couldn’t help but wonder
if this is a harbinger of
a dreadful season to come.
My bluebird of happiness
flying in spring training
has hit the wall of reality.
Have I hitched my wagon
to a star that is dying?
Or to return to the birds –
do I say hope is “the thing
with feathers”? Let me check
the calendar and see who
the Mets play next, Detroit, I believe.
I like birds better than exploding stars.
