As another baseball season approaches, the records
are wiped clean as hope kisses the winter weary grass
with sunshine. The wins and losses have disappeared
into the archives where the memories are not
who scored more runs or won more games, although
at times our teams did both. Around town, the baseball
fields of my youth turn green, and the late March winds
cause the ghosts of teammates to dance. The joy
in our connection holds firm against the vagaries
of time and distance. Our true record.
