As the Phillies played
their last home game of the regular season,
I, a regular for twenty-six years,
attended my final back-to-school night.
The band director spoke
of his active revision policy.
He said he welcomes, even encourages, re-dos
as there aren’t many things in life we can’t correct.
I came home to watch a Bryce Harper ejection video.
The slugger checked his swing, but the ref said otherwise.
I try to learn from everything,
but I struggled to identify a take-away.
I’ve made my share of errors.
I’ve also missed many deadlines.
Despite my many failings,
I take comfort in revision.
Extra innings
Extended curfews
Experiential curriculums
As I watched the video replay,
I took in a master class on missed opportunities
to make things right.
