I am living the Riddle of the Sphinx;
In fact, I am in Stage 3, riding my cane
Through all sorts of adventures, many of
Them baseball-related, so pay attention
When a tribal elder asks a question –
And here it s: Why isn’t Rusty Staub in
The Hall of Fame? Cooperstown should
Be proud to welcome him. He had 2716
Hits in 23 seasons. He played in six All-
Star games. He was considered so special
By his first team, Montreal. that they renamed
Him “le Grant Orange” affectionately,
Motivated by his red hair (or his hot hitting).
He’s the only Major Leaguer to have more
Than 500 hits with each of four Major teams:
The Expos, the Mets, Houston and Detroit.
It’ll be a worthy posthumous honor for the
Personification of consistency.
