Despite the Mets payroll
of 323 million dollars,
they fell on their bats.
They did not make the playoffs.
After a period of mourning,
I turned on the TV to watch
teams I never followed
play in the division and league
championship games with
intensity and professionalism.
My love for the game re-blossomed.
I saw again the beauty of baseball
from the double steal to
the spectacular catch to
the majestic home run to
the artful double play.
Sad that my Mets weren’t involved,
but it was and is glorious
baseball nonetheless.
I can’t wait for the World Series.
