DIE-HARD FAN

Is it possible to die easy
and still be a fan?
Or must your demise
occur in some spectacular way
to prove your abiding loyalty?
Then there is this to consider:
If you are quite dead,
and buried deep in the ground,
how can you still be a fan?
Wave a pennant from the crypt?
Cheer from the edge of the cemetery?
It is difficult enough these days
to be a live-hard fan, living as I do
in the midst of a losing streak
suffered by my beloved New York Mets.
I don’t know how much more I can endure.
The team is sending me to an early grave,
where I will be fully justified
in calling myself a true “Die-Hard Fan.”
