MR. TEAM

That’s what they called Bob
Elliott. Traded from the Pirates
he ruled third base 1946-1952
hitting homers, getting the clutch
RBI and a good BA every year,
good enough to be MVP in 1947
before finally following Dark
and Stanky to the Giants, finishing
with the Browns and Chisox. The ‘51
Bowman showed him on one knee
in the on-deck circle leaning on his bat
not in prayer, but studying the pitcher
waiting to hit.
