SCOUTING REPORT

“Though he may well be a
promising minor league poet,
probably of Triple A caliber,
We doubt he is ready for the Big Show now.
He can certainly field all kinds of topics,
albeit with limited vision, but his poetic swing
demonstrates a lack of bat speed and consistency.
He is rather rigid in his poetic stance,
and is not amenable to changing his grip on
unrhymed free verse of 15-20 lines.
He has not shown the kind of power
necessary to clear the literary fences.
His poetry, while unsuited to
the pastoral demands of the game,
nevertheless does exhibit an urban uniqueness.
What we like best about him is
his gritty tenacity over 1300 poems.
We wish him well, but at this point in time,
cannot see offering him a Major League contract.”
