First place in August!
You’ve got to be kidding me.
But there it is –
as obvious as a shiny new penny
you find on the sidewalk.
All things are possible now –
a new job, a new love,
a spring in your step
as you quickly pass by pedestrians
on a busy Brooklyn street.
The world takes on a new hue;
colors are brighter, food tastes better.
And at the game,
you join with the community of fans
who believe this late in the season
that playoffs are definitely part of your future.
So, may the beat go on.
May home runs sail into the right field bleachers.
The world is a baseball game,
and you stand on top of it, in first place.
