ANOTHER OPENIN’ ANOTHER SHOW

If baseball were a Broadway play
no doubt there would be a drama with
a walk-off homer ringing down the curtain
Or maybe it would morph into a comedy
full of blunders and missed chances
but I say baseball owes its roots to the
distinctly American art form – the musical
To wit, some songs:

“Some Enchanted Evening” –
the first night game under the stars
“Tradition” – speaks for my loyalty as I
have suffered through countless seasons
“Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” – if my team
could actually win a series
“Sixteen Going on Seventeen” – a really
long extra-innings game
“My Favorite Things” – what could be better
than a hot dog and some beer?
“Climb Every Mountain “ – my woebegone
team after losing five straight games
“Shall We Dance?” – the runner leads off first
“You’ll Never Walk Alone” – the pitcher
just put three men on base
“If I Were a Rich Man” – I’d buy a season’s ticket
“Send in the Clowns” – the bull pen’s kinda weak

And finally,
“I Dreamed a Dream” – that my team will play
in the World Series

Happy Opening Day
