YOUNG MAN’S PASSION

He lived for the ball and bat,
the excitement of the field –
his father came to every game.
He was a hero
and saw stars.
He longed for the day
to teach his sons
and he had three –
But:
one saw a clarinet,
another wanted to write,
the last liked trucks.
None,
was thrilled by baseball.
He eventually learned
to be a different father
than he knew.
