WIFFLE BALL

If I close my eyes, I can see it now
A diamond spread beneath the clouds
In the middle of the cul-de-sac
Second base was a sidewalk crack
If you hit one over the telephone wire
You could take four bases and the fire hydrant

Hearts filled with love and trust
Sweat fell like rain, without the rust
Afraid of nothing, no regrets
Just one pitch and then the next
Eyes upon the spinning wheel
Our folks were young and so were we

Round and shiny with lots of holes,
A wicked curve starts to roll
It could wind up high or dart down low
Just like life…I suppose.
Watch it rise, watch it fall,
We’re beholden to the Wiffle Ball
